Nosara gives you several different bases: a surf beach, a beach with rocks and stronger waves, an inland retreat setting and quieter coastal villages. Choose the place that fits your days, then see current stays for your dates.
Choose your base
Stay in Guiones for a surf-centered beach routine and surf lessons. Pick Pelada for rocks, stronger waves, snorkeling and hiking. Inland Nosara suits retreat guests and longer stays, while Garza and Ostional offer a quieter coastal rhythm.
A listing may use “Nosara” for a wide area. Check the map point, final road and access plan before you book. The label Near the beach means you should confirm the exact map point and route, not assume that the name puts a room beside the sand.

Guiones is the beach-area base for a surf-centered stay. It has white sand and few stones, and sits inside the Ostional refuge.
Guiones suits first-time beach stays, surf learners, families who want a clear beach routine and travelers combining surf with classes. Choose beach-area lodging, a small guesthouse, a vacation rental or a wellness stay based on the meals, kitchen use, board storage and shade you need.
Ask about the path to the beach and the final road before you book. A surf base is not automatically beside the beach. For a wider view, see the Playa Guiones beach and area guide.
Playa Pelada
Pelada is a separate beach community north of Guiones. It has white sand, stronger waves and rocks, with snorkeling and hiking among its outdoor activities.
Pelada suits travelers who want white sand, rocks and stronger waves near their base. Compare beach stays, villas, guesthouses and rentals by kitchen access, shade, parking and road surface. Families should ask about the shoreline, access path and wave conditions on their dates.
Confirm how you reach Guiones if classes or meals are based there. See the Playa Pelada guide for its rocks, snorkeling and hiking.
Inland Nosara
Inland Nosara separates lodging from the beach but can place you closer to retreat settings, community services and quieter rural roads.
It suits wellness travelers, longer stays, families who prefer space and visitors planning several areas by vehicle. Compare retreat accommodation, guesthouses, apartments and villas by meals, kitchen access, workspace, transport and shade.
Ask for a door-to-beach estimate from the exact address. “Nosara” alone is not enough for a transfer quote, especially when rain changes the road. Use the Playa Nosara guide for the coast beyond Guiones.
Playa Nosara
Playa Nosara is a long beach with shallow sandbars and rocky reefs, extending toward the Río Boca Nosara.
This area suits travelers building a beach-and-nature plan who are comfortable with a less standardized visitor setup. Look for coastal lodging, rentals and small guesthouses, then ask about food, water, shade, parking and road access. Surfers should ask locally about conditions.
Confirm the exact road and shoreline access. Ask what happens after heavy rain and whether a high-clearance vehicle is needed for the final approach. Use the Playa Nosara guide before you choose this base.
Garza and Ostional
Garza has a stony beach, moderate waves, a mangrove area and a nearby fishing village. It suits travelers who want a community setting rather than Guiones surf services. Compare coastal guesthouses and rentals by road, food access and the pace you want.
Ostional needs a little more planning. SINAC requires an accredited local guide on the beach during nesting season. ADIO and the refuge announce observation times, and groups are kept small. SINAC prohibits vehicles and horses on protected sand, plus pets, litter, fires and nighttime flash. For current refuge contacts and visitor instructions, use the official SINAC refuge page.
Compare hotel options
Compare areas and stay styles first, then see current Nosara hotel deals for your dates. Compare the map and access before you book.
For longer stays, compare kitchen access, laundry, workspace, shade and road access before booking. If your route covers more than one area, leave extra time for rain and ask each host about the final road. The Getting to Nosara page covers arrival options, and Nosara with kids adds family planning tips.
